Impression and Awareness

It is truly amazing how I can, with one action, effect my daughter and she will pick up on whatever I do. Parents can tell you a million times that children are like sponges. Do we ever really absorb ourselves what that really means? It means to me that what WE are not conscious of anymore, our children are. Because at the very young age of 17 months , my daughter’s desire to learn is larger than anything I can ever remember wanting myself. I watch her watching me and I realized that she will do exactly what I do. She trusts me. Why wouldn’t she. I know this sounds simple and you probably have heard it before. However, one thing I do know is, I should lead by example. If I do not want my daughter doing something, I must show her and guide her. Even the things I want her to do, I must show her and guide her. That involves giving up some of my time to do it. To be selfless. I will admit, it is hard.

What I am learning as I discover new things as a parent is the best gift I have ever been given so far IS my daughter. She is teaching me to be a balanced mother and my husband a great father. This note was just a thought I wanted to share because I understand how difficult it can be for parents, but it starts with us. We are their leaders. I think about all of the things I learned from my parents and other mentors as I grew up. Now I see we all carry so much responsibility. Wow! I am laughing out loud a little because it seems so overwhelming. Well, we will make mistakes, our children will complain about us no matter what, we may feel alone sometimes, but we are only human. The best thing we can do is support each other and our children and be the best we can be to make a good impression and be aware that how we act effects everyone around us, especially our children.
